A fresh perspective

13/07/2016

Real life case studies are always very popular when we feature them in our newsletters.

This is probably because it shows how we have used a whole range of marketing methods in a fully integrated way to promote a business or to launch a new product. This month we showcase the work that we have recently carried out for Falkirk Employment Law.

From developing an eye catching and iconic brand identity, to writing copy, organising a workplace photo shoot, then applying this to print, website and digital platforms before launching the new venture at The Kelpies. Here’s the story of Falkirk Employment Law and their successful marketing journey with us.

We hope that you agree that once again we have brought a fresh perspective to marketing a specialist new business.

Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

01/06/2016

We can’t quite believe that this is the June edition of our newsletter.

It’s certainly been a busy time at Bright Light Marketing as we have worked with a wide range of clients on some really interesting projects including the new launch of the new Grapevine Restaurant which opened in Galashiels recently. As a business which is capitalising on the opportunity generated from the Borders Railway, we thought you might find it an interesting case study.

We hope you enjoy reading this edition and that it gives you a little food for thought for summer and beyond.

Fiona, Janice and Fiona.

Employing the right tactics

02/12/2015

In this month’s edition we take a look at a recent project we have been working on. Instead of focussing on one particular marketing method, we show you how we used a whole range of communications to successfully launch and establish a new business in Dundee.

Dundee Employment Law offers employers a specialist service that is dedicated to law in the workplace. The owner knew there was a demand for such a service but needed our help to develop an eye-catching new brand identity and then a promotional campaign to launch the new venture and get its messages out to the business community.

Here’s the story of Dundee Employment Law and their marketing journey with us.

Advert placed - job done. Think again.

16/09/2015
As we head into a new season we thought we would use this edition to focus on how to make your mark this Autumn and beyond.

And as we allude to in the title of this article, it’s certainly not enough to place an expensive advert or put an offer on the website and sit back and wait for customers to come in these days.  Like all areas of running a business, successful marketing takes hard work and a professional, strategic approach. We hope that this month’s three tips give you food for thought and they assist you in attracting new customers over the autumn period and beyond.

But if you need help with your marketing, remember that professional help is at hand. For an informal chat about how we can help to get your business noticed and help you to grow your business then give us a call.

There's a train coming

25/08/2015

With the opening of the new Borders Railway just a couple of week’s away, access between The Scottish Borders and Edinburgh will never have been easier or quicker. We are all really looking forward to using the railway both for business and pleasure and recognise the commercial opportunity that it will bring too.

In fact, the Borders Railway is arguably the most exciting opportunity to happen for businesses in the Scottish Borders in a generation, one which will open up a huge range of new and potential customers for each and every business in the region. But as with all new business it won’t just come to you handed on a plate, if you want to benefit from the Borders Railway you can’t sit back and wait for it to happen.  You need to let potential customers know about your business and give them reasons to buy from you.

So the question we pose in this month’s edition ‘Is your business ready to catch the train?’

We’ll see you on board!

Yours Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Working well together

23/06/2015
As you know we like to keep you up to date with the work that we have been doing and this month thought we would keep things even more topical with a case study all about the workplace!

But instead of focussing on one particular marketing method, we show you how we worked with one of our clients by using a whole range of marketing methods in a fully integrated approach.

Borders Employment Law offers employers a specialist service that is dedicated to law in the workplace. The owners knew there was a demand for such a service but needed our help to develop an eye-catching new brand identity and then a promotional campaign to launch the new venture and get its messages out to the business community.

New Tricks

22/04/2015

Well it’s safe to say that Spring has well and truly sprung and as well as the welcome arrival of some lovely warm weather  it is also the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning and start afresh.

This includes your marketing activity and this is the ideal time to take a look at some new ideas and and try something different.  So in this month’s edition we thought we would introduce you to the benefits of Facebook Advertising for your business.

And if your initial knee jerk reaction is to say that Facebook advertising just isn’t for you, then think again, we would strongly encourage you to take five minutes of your time to read our article on the subject. Not only is it cheaper than normal advertising, it is also much more targeted and unlike traditional advertising you can see instantly if it is working.

Here’s to a busy and prosperous Spring for everyone.

Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Words don't come easy

04/03/2015

Well March has certainly come in like a lion, let’s hope that it goes out like a lamb!

We really like this proverb because it’s a good example of how words can make a point and bring a subject to life in a memorable way. So in this month’s edition, we thought it would be a good idea to focus specifically on the importance of using words to get your message out and your story heard.

Now if you regularly read our newsletter you will know that we use a full range of marketing methods to get our clients noticed, from social media to press and PR and everything else in between. But really, when all is said and done, effective marketing always boils down to the same thing – good communication.

But if like many people you know how good your business or product is but struggle to tell your story, haven’t got the time or simply don’t feel comfortable doing it. And sorry but this is where we reference the cheesy song title in our header …… if words don’t come easy to you, then help is at hand.

You’d be amazed at what we write about on a daily basis for our diverse range of clients.

Here’s to a very good Spring when it finally arrives.

Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

A Flaming Success

08/01/2015

Since its January we thought we would keep this month’s newsletter as warm and cosy as we can with a case study all about stoves!

Instead of focussing on one of our marketing services we focus on one of our clients who we have helped to use several marketing methods in a fully integrated and highly successful campaign.  Bright Heat Stoves are a new full service wood burning stove company which has recently been  launched here in the Borders. The owners approached us last summer regarding a marketing strategy and promotional campaign for the venture.

Here’s a step by step guide to how we worked with the team and helped them to get off to a flying start, we hope you enjoy reading their story.

Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

You will see it’s quite an eclectic mix but every single one of them has a unique quality product or service on offer that we think you will love. We really hope you enjoy reading their individual stories too.

And don’t miss the chance to win a lovely bottle of champagne and a movie courtesy of us in our Christmas competition below! What’s your favourite Christmas film of all time?

A blueprint for growth

26/08/2014

What a glorious summer for Scotland with the Commonwealth Games being such a resounding success. Obviously it depends on the type of business that you are in but we hope you enjoyed some spin off from the influx of visitors and interest in Scotland that was generated as a result of the Games.

And as we head into autumn, this is the perfect time to look at your marketing and communications and evaluate not only what you are going to do in the next season but also what are your plans for 2015. Central to this should be a comprehensive Marketing Plan and in this edition we take a look at what makes a good marketing plan and the vital stages you need to consider to make sure that your plan provides you with a blueprint for growth.

We hope that this wonderful summer for Scotland combined with the improving economy continues well into autumn and beyond for all of us.

Just the Ticket

09/07/2014

Well here we are smack bang in the middle of the peak Summer holiday season.

Of course some of you will be lucky enough to escape for a well-earned break whilst many of you will be working flat out looking after customers and making hay while the sun shines!

But if you do manage a little time off to travel around and enjoy one of the many world class events that are taking place in Scotland this year, we have a FREE App that could be just the ticket for you.

As you might know we have been working on a national marketing campaign to promote the many fascinating stories about Scotland’s Pubs and Bars. Part of this work has included the production of a dedicated App which makes it easy for visitors (and indeed fellow Scots) to discover the wealth of great stories about Scotland’s Pubs and Bars.

We are delighted to say that the Scotland’s Pubs and Bars App is going down a storm and we thought we would share it with you too.

Have a wonderful Summer and enjoy some sunshine if you can.

Yours Fiona, Janice and Fiona

A Blogger’s Guide

19/06/2014

This month we thought we would take a look at one of the most cost effective methods of engaging with your customers – the Blog. But if you think blogs are just about the minutiae central of someone’s daily life or obscure hobbies, then think again.

If you don’t already use a blog on your website, you’ll be amazed at just how effective it can be when used properly to promote a business or service. So in this edition we talk about the distinct advantages that a blog can bring to your business and just as importantly give you some great tips on how to keep a blog going and how to make it interesting for readers.

We hope that this article shows that blogging isn’t just another trendy fad but it is a very powerful way of telling your story to a huge number of people.

Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

PS  And if blogging just isn’t your thing then remember that Bright Light Marketing can write and deliver blogs for you, as we do for a wide range of our clients on a regular basis. Not only does this get your business name out there, it enables you to share your knowledge and expertise, connect with customers and ultimately make you money!

Too Shy, Shy

22/05/2014
Now no-one likes a show off and many of us subscribe to the strong principal that ‘action speaks louder than words’. And we do agree with this (sorry there’s a but coming) but we would also strongly argue that you might have the greatest business in the world, the best products or offer exceptional customer service. But if you don’t tell people about it then how can you expect to attract new customers? Are you reaping the rewards for all your hard work or are you a best kept secret? Effective communication is something that we help all of our clients with on a daily basis and hope that this month’s edition genuinely gives you food for thought. Yours Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Spring loaded

29/04/2014
We hope you had a great Easter and got a chance to enjoy the good weather. And now that Spring is officially here, we also hope the new season brings with it plenty of opportunities that will get you new business. Perhaps you had some great ideas about marketing your business at the start of 2014 and have simply not had the time to put them into practice. Or you know that you need to market your business more consistently but do not have the expertise to do so. This new season is loaded with good opportunities, especially as the economy is getting brighter and consumer confidence is building. Spring should be the time to shout out about your business but if you don’t then your existing and potential customers could simply go elsewhere. If you have a good business but you need a little help in getting it noticed then we think that this month’s article will prove an interesting read to you. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

This little piggy went to market

27/03/2014
As a small marketing agency based in Scotland we certainly like to wax lyrical about the benefits of using social media as part of your marketing communications. We know this not only from our own business experience but also by running social media campaigns for many of our clients. Social media is a very effective communication tool that will keep your business in your customers mind, raise awareness to new customers and bring you new business. So in this edition, rather than simply taking our word for it we thought we would bring some of the advantages of social media alive through one of our clients, Oink of Edinburgh. Yours Fiona, Janice and Fiona

A story worth telling

26/03/2014
This month we have a great story to tell you, in fact many great stories. We are delighted to be working on a national marketing campaign which aims to promote the fascinating stories about Scotland’s Pubs and Bars. As well as letting you know about this hugely interesting project and how it came about, we thought you would also be interested to find out how we will be promoting these stories to Scotland’s visitors in 2014. And the pubs and bars of Scotland have certainly got a story to tell, from the Highlands and Islands to the Lowlands and our great cities, there are many great stories waiting to be told. The stories are varied and certainly eclectic; from Robert Burns to Irvine Welsh, The Beatles to The Killers, Roy Rogers and Trigger to Dame Helen Mirren! Whisky Galore to Harry Potter, the birth of whisky to the Stone of Destiny and just about everything else in between. Fascinating stories to tell and as well as project managing the overall Scotland’s Pubs and Bars campaign we are also delivering key aspects of promotional activity on behalf of The Scottish Licensed Trade Association. We are sure you will agree, this is a story that is worth telling. Yours, Fiona Janice and Fiona

A pet project

25/02/2014
In this month’s edition, rather than focusing on one particular strand of marketing activity we’ve decided to look instead at one particular client who have successfully used a combination of marketing tools to very good effect. We hope you find this article interesting and that this real life case study shows just what can be achieved through a more joined up thinking approach to marketing. Borders Pet Rescue are a wonderful charity and we were delighted to have the opportunity to work with them to help them realise their true potential and receive the recognition and support they deserve for a bright future. Yours Fiona, Janice and Fiona

This little piggy went to market

26/11/2013

We know this not only from our own business experience but also by running social media campaigns for many of our clients. Social media is a very effective communication tool that will keep your business in your customers mind, raise awareness to new customers and bring you new business. Put yourself on the map

24/10/2013
During the last couple of years many businesses have been finding it hard to survive and have concentrated on looking after their existing customers and kept their heads down as they have weathered the tough economic conditions. There are signs however for cautious optimism ahead and that we are hopefully starting to see real signs of improvement. So in this edition of our newsletter we take a look at three reasons why it might be time for your business to consider a dedicated Marketing Plan. We hope that you find this article a useful and interesting read. Yours, Fiona Janice and Fiona

It ain't what you do....

24/09/2013
We suspect we have completely given our age away by the title of this edition and for those of you not even born until 1980 something then please just talk amongst yourselves! But putting dodgy Bananarama references aside, there is a serious and very relevant point to this month’s message. In this edition we take a close look at Social Media and ask whether you are using is to maximum effect? We argue that it’s not enough to just have presence on these platforms, it’s what you do with them that will get you results. And we give huge congratulations to our client QubeGB who entered the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 at an extremely impressive number 35. This table ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms companies with the fastest growing sales over the last three years. We hope you enjoy reading this month’s edition. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Technology has changed almost every aspect of how we consume – from reading books and newspapers to buying music, how we shop to how we socialise, research products, travel and even complain! And of course marketing has to keep in step with how technology shapes consumer behaviour or be left behind forever. In this edition we take a fascinating look at some old versus new methods of marketing and discuss issues such as : Is print still relevant today? Is social media just hype ? Is everything really just the same but different as its always been ? We hope you enjoy reading this edition and if you would like to discuss your marketing requirements please don't hesitate to give us a call. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Marketing is about telling a story

30/03/2011
Well here we are nearly at the end of March and Easter is upon us. Business wise we are now at the end of the first quarter of the year. A quarter that was predicted to be tough for businesses as people cut back after Christmas. You do still need a crystal ball to predict the economy and what the next couple of months is going to bring with experts offering different opinions on whether we will see improvement and encourage more consumer spending or not. What is true though is that customers are being careful on how they spend their money and there is a trend on spending it on companies that they know and trust and this can benefit small to medium businesses like you. But only if you communicate with your customers and potential customers as to why they should spend money with you. So this months Bright Light Marketing newsletter looks at how you can communicate with your customers and make sure they spend money with you. Congratulations also to our clients, Kate and Gordon Innes at the Tontine Hotel in Peebles, for winning the Scottish Town Hotel of the Year and receiving a Staff Management Excellence Commendation at The Scottish Hotel Of The Year Awards on Sunday. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Are you a Happy Camper

01/03/2011
As ever in the tourism industry there are some who are saying that 2011 will be a great year for UK Tourism as consumers continue the trend of the Staycation especially for the all important main summer holiday. Particularly if you are in the Caravan and Camping business which is going through a real boom at the moment. But are you benefiting and tapping into this new and growing interest in camping or are you wondering why you are not reaping the rewards? If you want people to know about your business you need to communicate with them and. Bright Light Marketing are experts in marketing the Camping sector through their work with established businesses and ones who want to diversify into new businesses. We hope that this newsletter will show how we can help you benefit from the demand for Camping which is experiencing such growth and has huge opportunities for more growth in the future.

You never write, you never phone.

01/03/2011
We are slowly getting through the winter and making our way towards Spring and its great to see the first signs of the new season appearing, but is your business ready ? And are you making the most of the opportunities? It may seem obvious but it is surprising how few businesses communicate with their customers. Your existing customers are your most valuable asset especially in the current climate. Even in good times it costs five times more to attract a new customer as it does to keep an existing customer and just now every customer counts. So we thought for this newsletter we would discuss the pros and the cons of communication with your customers.

Room For Improvement in Profits

01/03/2011
As ever in the tourism industry there are some who are saying that 2011 will be a great year for UK Tourism as consumers continue the trend of the Staycation especially for the all important main summer holiday. While others are saying that trading conditions will be tough particularly in the first quarter as the VAT increase takes affect and people reduce their spending post Christmas. In running a business it is hard to know what to believe and even Robert Peston of BBC fame does not have a crystal ball. The reality is that we can see the potential trends and that is useful to know but it doesn’t actually predict what it means for your Hotel. So what do you do? How do you get people to stay with you this year and people to eat in your restaurant and more importantly how do you pay the bills and make a profit at the end of the year? Well the worst thing you can do is do nothing and hope that people will know who you are and therefore come to stay. If you want people to know about your hotel you need to communicate with them. Bright Light Marketing are experts in marketing hotels and hope that this newsletter will show how we can bring additional business to your hotel in 2011 and show you how our client the Tontine Hotel has used marketing to achieve superb results.

Lets make money in 2011

12/01/2011
For obvious reasons the news is full of the economic, political and social implications for 2011. Particularly with the recent increase in VAT and the post analysis of the festive season with close scrutiny on the impact that the Arctic conditions had on business in December too. Running a business is never easy and sometimes you just want to switch off the news and not listen to the latest predictions. Realistically some of the predictions will come true and some won’t and equally some will affect your business and some won’t. As a business owner though you are in the driving seat of your business and you have two options. You can either sit back and wait to see what happens or you can pro actively market your business in 2011 and communicate with your customers and potential customers. At Bright Light Marketing we believe that marketing is about communicating with your customers and having them at the heart of your business. So for our first newsletter of 2011 we have set out some marketing basics so that you can make the most of 2011 for you and your business. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

How are you going to get business in 2011

23/11/2010
Well here we are fast approaching December and Christmas is just around the corner. For many of you this is an extremely hectic time which is good for business but we thought you might want to take ten minutes over a coffee to catch up on the latest marketing news. In our last newsletter of the year we thought we’d take a look ahead to 2011. We have included a really interesting feature on some key trends that are very likely to shape consumer behaviour next year. Whilst we don’t have a crystal ball this is an accurate way of looking ahead and when we did this a year ago the trends we featured then were Social Networking, the growth of the Staycation and the increasing demand for Local goods and services. These trends have certainly translated into definite consumer behaviour and have become dominant features in the market place. So are you ready for Retail Rebirth and Garden State ? We certainly hope that this gives you some knowledge and inspiration for the year ahead and that you are ready to make the most of the opportunities out there. Until then have a wonderful festive season and we look forward to speaking to you in the New Year. Yours, Fiona, Janice and Fiona
